Noopept by Health Naturals
Noopept is around 1,000 times stronger than piracetam. Piracetam affects the early stage of memory processing, while noopept also improves the consolidation and retrieval stages of memory. It may also have anti-anxiety, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties from amyloid excess while also improving blood flow.
Potential Noopept Benefits and Uses
1) Helps With Emotional Balance
In a clinical trial of 53 patients with emotional sensitivity (after vascular or traumatic brain injuries), noopept (10 mg 2 times per day) performed significantly better than piracetam (400 mg 3 times per day).
It improved anxiety, irritability, mood, energy, apathy, sleep disturbances, daytime drowsiness, and headache, some of it within the first week.
Within the 56 days for the trial, it did not improve mood, sleep, waking, and drowsiness.
Some of these patients had negative effects such as increased sleep issues, irritability, and an increase in blood pressure.
2) May Improve Memory And Cognition
Rats receiving Noopept improved one-session learning, while after repeated administration the number of successful learners increased among those who failed initial training. Thus, it improves memory and prevents amnesia.
3) May Improve Anxiety
In rats, cycloprolylglycine (produced in the brain from Noopept) reduced anxiety, suggesting that anxiety and memory are regulated together.
4) May Prevent Stress
In rats, Noopept decreased the activity of stress-induced proteins (MAPK). Drugs against these same proteins have therapeutic potential as cancer inhibitors.
5) May Improve Alzheimer’s And Parkinson’s
In test tube-based studies, Noopept was neuroprotective and prevented cell death from amyloid toxicity, which is the cause of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s symptoms.
A cellular model experiment found that it also prevents oxidative damage and mitochondrial cell death, important for fighting Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
6) Miscellaneous/Other
In rats with experimental type 1 diabetes, noopept improved the production of incretin, a hormone that stimulates insulin secretion in response to meals.
In rats with bacterial inflammation, noopept lowered IL-6 and TNF-alpha. While in mice, there are also other immune system benefits, such as an increased response to antigens and white blood cell growth.
Also, in rats, it reduced neurosis (learned helplessness).
Interestingly, noopept in white mice increased their movement into white rooms, and the opposite effect occurred in black mice.
In a group of 127 healthy volunteers, noopept improved adaptation to hot or cold environments and increased physical work capacity in hot climates.
Noopept also prevents blood clotting and might be useful for preventing or treating stroke [17]. In rats, it prevents lipids oxidation.
How Does Noopept Work?
The exact mechanism is not fully understood. After chronic intake, noopept increases NGF (nerve growth factor) and BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) in rat hippocampus and hypothalamus.
Its primary mechanism of action is increasing the activity of HIF1A, a DNA transcription factor.
Noopept increases nerve inhibition without increasing inhibitory neurotransmitters.
In some mice strains, the GABA-A receptor in the prefrontal cortex produced the anti-anxiety effect, while the hippocampus NMDA receptor was mainly responsible for the nootropic effects. However, other mice strains showed no improvements.
In snails, noopept suppressed the voltage-gated calcium and potassium channels used in calcium balance.
Also, in rats, noopept increased alpha/beta 1 brainwaves in all areas.
Noopept Side Effects and Risks
Noopept has side effects such as headaches, dizziness, and tiredness, which are usually associated with low blood pressure. But, in this case, high blood pressure is the cause of these negative effects
Noopept Dosage
10 – 30 mg per day is what users often go with, while 20 mg was used in a clinical trial.
